My winter projects

Postby ejuers » February 28th, 2010, 3:57 pm

Just like some of you I have been busy with bike projects over the course of winter. I have been keeping mine under wraps a little bit. But I thought I would share a little bit of what I have going on now.

First I have both of my bikes apart for new paint.
Image

The black bike will now be red with silver flake and a graveyard theme.

I'm in the process of installing led lights, a fancy IPOD holder and heated grips.

And cleaning up my wiring mess by installing a nice switch housing.

I am also adding hardbags and getting rid of my leather ones.
Image

As far as my green bike goes, it will still be green with real fire flames.
But I am also working on 3D skulls and flames to go with it right now. But I will be keeping that under wraps until I get it finished. The rear fender is going to have a skull on it and the eyes are going to light up when I hit the rear brake. I have already got this part worked out. There will be skulls and flames on the tank and front fender. I'm still waiting for a few things to come in so I can finish the side covers as well.
One of my seats and pillion pad will be done in croc (if the guy ever calls me back anyways).
I will be going with smaller skull turns again, the big ones are just to heavy to handle hitting a pot hole. I also think they look better then the bigger ones.

Now I just hope now that I will have at least one bike back together so I can ride when the weather breaks.

Thats exciting Eric. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Are you still going with a dark green for the custom bike or are you going to try a different green?
I like the choice of the hardbags. Do you have someone local painting or do you got to ship your parts?

I am staying with the dark green, but I want a different color green for the flames. My painter is right here in town, so it makes it nice. And since he is local, and I do a lot of shows he said he would paint both bikes for the price of one just so he would have his name/ work out there more. It's a win, win thing (probably more so for me). :D
I got a hell of a deal on the fiberglass bags, so I could not pass them up ($370 including brackets and shipping). Most hard bags are a lot more then that. With my hard leather bags, I have just over $700 into them.
I'm going to put those bags on my brothers bike, so he will be able to carry a little something now. My old heated grips will go on his bike also. It's nice that nothing will be going to waste by setting on a shelf.

Wow, you got a sweet deal on the paint. You should consider sending your pictures to some more bike magazines when the new paint is on. I can't wait to see it done :mcrider:

Thanks, I'm going to try, but it's hard to get into those magazines. :MG_65:
And to tell you the truth I know that there are a lot of bikes out there, that are a lot better then mine and deserve to be in those mags.

I have made a little progress over the last couple of days. My tins are primed for the black bike except for the fairing (working on filling the seams). I installed the switch housing and have it wired to my running lights, LED's, and stereo (when I get the fairing installed). Heated grips installed, and also a chrome IPOD holder.
I got my saddlebags in but I have to wait until I get my rear fender back so I can fit them to the bike. At that time I will also cut the bags in half and extend them (make them deeper) down over the exhaust. Right now they are about the same size as the bags I had on the bike, and I want a longer look but not pay the high price so I will be doing it myself.
I sent my seat and pillion pad out to get recovered in Crocadile, for my green bike. Baby steps I guess, but I'm so ready to start riding. My brother has been out a couple times so far, and normally I'm the first on out.

LED's installed as far as I can go for now.

I installed smaller skull turn signals on the green bike, mostly because they weight less the bigger one's and will match the rears when I done.

Eric, where did you get your LED's from and what did they run. I'm contiplating replacing a couple of mine to more of those "strips", than just the single bulbs. I know there are kits and such, but I was wondering which direction you took.

Everything else is pretty dagnabbit sweet dude! I think your crazy for tearing that shiny one all apart, but I'm sure it will come back even more amazing!

I got mine from www.customdynamics.com and bought a kit, but you can buy how ever many you may want (1 or 50). They are also very brite, and are right on top of your order (mine shipped the next day).

As far as the green bike goes, I just was not happy with it the more that I looked at it. But I feel very confident that is going to change, when it is done this time. :D I'm being more selective this time, and just fixin the things I did not like about it (nothing major).

The graveyard theme is out and we are back to my original idea. Between my painter and myself we came up with some cool idea's for the new theme. Here is a picture, but there will be a lot of changes to it. The colors are what I like because it gives the feel of everything being on fire but without the flames. He should be starting the paint tomorrow. :JC_pray:
My fairing is now all one peice and looks great.
I got my other 3D parts in yesterday, and I worked on them last night. Tonight I'm going to work on them some more, so hopefully I can get this bike to him soon.

Image

I ordered some bag extentions to save some time on cutting the bags, but depending on how much lower it makes them I still might have to cut the bags.

Progress is slow, but at least it's headed in the right direction.

The bags are going to be the hold up, but I'll just take my time with them anyway. Parts are on back order until late April, if not longer. So I will just use my other bags for the time being. When it comes to bikes everything is a slow process, so I just have to take it as it comes and hope for the best.

ejuers thanks for the reference on those LED's. I ordered a whole kit, and replaced most of my past lights with these the other day. I have to say that those are some pretty heavy duty lights. VERY well made, and they seem like they can stand up to some harsh elements. Plus I love the fact that if you need to adjust the amount of lights on one strip, you can just cut it with snips no problem. I would recommend them to anyone.

Your welcome, I'm glad it worked out for you. They were cheaper then the first set that I bought for the green bike, and they seem to be just as brite.
Post some pictures with your new set up.
